Build your scenario
The starting values are examples. Replace them with your team's observed workload and proposed cost. All monetary inputs and outputs use USD.
Count alerts your team actually triages, across the tools in scope.
Use an observed average, including duplicate and false-positive review.
Salary, benefits, and overhead per working hour.
Your planning assumption. Validate it in a measured pilot.
Include subscription and annualized rollout costs for the proposed change.
Your scenario is calculated in this browser. No email is required to download it. These assumptions are not sent with a follow-up request.
Scenario results
The value of engineering capacity
Annual engineering hours released
360
From 1,200 annual triage hours.
Annual labor capacity released
$36,000
Value of reusable time. Cash savings depend on how you use it.
Net annual capacity value
$24,000
After the incremental annual tooling cost in this scenario.
Modeled return on annual cost
200%
Net capacity value divided by annual tooling cost.
4 months to offset one year of tooling spend
This treats the annual cost as upfront and assumes equal monthly benefits. It is a capacity-value comparison, not a cash-flow forecast.
No breach avoidance, remediation savings, or claimed Winfunc time reduction is included. Validate your reduction assumption through a pilot with a comparable baseline.
Calculation methodology
- Annual triage hours = monthly alerts × 12 × minutes per alert ÷ 60.
- Released capacity = annual triage hours × assumed time reduction ÷ 100.
- Annual capacity value = released hours × loaded hourly cost (USD).
- Net annual value = annual capacity value − incremental annual tooling cost.
- Modeled ROI = net annual value ÷ annual tooling cost × 100, when cost is greater than zero.
- Cost-offset period = annual tooling cost ÷ annual capacity value × 12 months. This treats one year of cost as upfront and assumes benefits arrive evenly each month.
The model holds alert volume, triage complexity, and hourly cost constant for 12 months. Include rollout costs in annual tooling cost. It excludes remediation effort, tax, financing, discounting, and changes in staffing. Released time becomes cash savings only when a real cost is removed or avoided.
Questions about the assessment
01What does this application security ROI calculator measure?
It values the annual engineering hours released by an assumed reduction in triage time, subtracts incremental annual tooling cost, and calculates a modeled ROI when cost is positive. It measures capacity value, not guaranteed cash savings or breach prevention.
02How should I choose a triage time-reduction assumption?
Measure a baseline from comparable alerts, then run a pilot of the proposed workflow. Compare total review time, quality, and outcomes on similar work. The starting percentage is an example, not a Winfunc performance claim.
03Does the model include implementation and remediation costs?
You should include annualized implementation costs in the incremental annual tooling cost input. The calculator excludes remediation labor, financing, tax, discounting, and changes in alert volume. Add those to your final purchasing analysis when they are relevant.
04Can I download the result without submitting an email?
Yes. Download an executive PDF with the summary and three priorities, or a text report with all assumptions, results, and formulas. Both are generated in your browser. The optional follow-up form does not attach your scenario.
